Rain Delay

Well my fastball was pushing a hundred
And my slider was moving real good
And I just got their slugger to ground into a double play
But at the end of three and a half
Well we heard that thunder clap
Now we’re all back inside, and we’re caught in a rain delay
Oh we’re caught in a rain delay
And I guess there’s not that much to say
We sit on our thumbs, chew on our gum
Hope for the rain to go away
Yeah we’re caught in a rain delay
And we’ve still got six innings to play
But it’s not up to us
We’re caught in a rain delay
Well the clubhouse is lit by fluorescents
And somebody’s put music on
Now the air is rich with sweat and reggaeton
And the bench coach just read us the forecast
There’s a high pressure front's got to go past
So it's settle in boys, we're not leaving any time soon
[solo]
Now the left fielder’s practicing card tricks
And the catcher’s got a dirty book
And the short stop is worried he’s headed for triple A
And Dan the utility man
He’s over there doing headstands
Just to lighten the mood, and to help pass the time away
Oh we’re caught in a rain delay
Though we’d rather go back out and play
We sit here and hum, sneak a little rum
Wait till we get the OK
Yeah we’re caught in a rain delay
And I guess there’s not too much to say
But the minutes crawl by, when you’re caught in a rain delay
Now the DH is kissing his vape pen
And the right fielder’s glued to his phone
And the first baseman’s telling a story we’ve heard before
In the corner, the TV’s on mute
And the network is trying to make do
Showing highlights from last night, and B-roll, and out of town scores
[solo 2]
So I pace back and forth past the lockers
I do knee bends and windmill my arms
I’m just trying to stay loose so I’m ready to go back and play
And the first base coach is sleeping
And the third base coach is weeping
Oh it’s hard on a man to be caught in a rain delay
Yeah we’re caught in a rain delay
And I don’t think I’m doing OK
I’m still chewing gum, starting to feel numb,
Waiting, and wasting away
Oh we’re caught in a rain delay
Oh, rain, rain, go away
It’s just hard on a man to be stuck in a rain delay
Now they’re taking the tarp off the infield
And the grounds crew is fixing the mound
They’re scraping and raking and adding a little clay
Looks like most of the fans have gone home
Stuck in traffic with the radio on
Saying bear with us folks, we’re still in a rain delay
